We can’t let history repeat itself! After more than two decades of rent control in Massachusetts, voters saw the damage done to our communities and voted to ban it in 1994. A proposed rent control ballot measure would take us back in time and only worsen the housing shortage.

There's a reason that so many economists strongly oppose rent control, including MIT’s own Dr. Gruber. I hope Massachusetts residents will heed his warning and oppose rent control on the ballot this fall.

Like Governor Healey, I oppose rent control because it would actually make the housing shortage in our state worse. Massachusetts needs to build tens of thousands of new homes to bring down costs. The possibility of rent control pushes builders out of our state at a time when we can’t afford to slow down construction of new living options.
